The Care Center Photography
During my undergraduate studies I coordinated and taught a digital photography class as part of a GED acquisition program called The Care Center in Holyoke, MA. I created curriculum, designed projects, taught classes, planned field trips, and curated exhibitions. Students left the class learning skills such as: manual digital camera basics, studio lighting, Photoshop, basic printing, and critical thinking through photography. I created a class website to showcase the program, as well as a Facebook group where students were able to post homework and participate in a forum for talking about photography outside of the classroom. In the spring of 2012 we culminated the academic year with a large scale exhibition at the Canal Gallery in Holyoke, MA, funded in part by the Social Venture Fund. For my work at the Care Center, I was awarded the Joy of Giving Scholarship for Teaching. Below are some of the examples of work developed by my students, as well as exhibition shots and an article published in the local paper.
